Tanning Vending Machine from 1945. Most of us with pale skin are looking rather pasty & dreaming of blue skies, summer sun and a tan after this miserable weather. This picture reminds me of the gasoline fight scene in Zoolander as seen here. Not sure why but just how my brain works. These days for a safe tan I love the self tan line by Sisley and for a cheaper option I think you can’t beat Johnson’s Holiday Skin. Go on get your bronze on.

New Work: Vogue Spain April 2013. Photographed by Victor Demarchelier Styled by Charles Varenne Hair by Sebastian RIchard Nails by Anny Erradonea and the Model is Melissa Tammerijn. The shoot was lots of beautiful fine jewellery with a gazillion suited and booted guards on set who spent the day eating protein bars and on facebook. The clothes were mostly different denims with black & white pieces with cool wet look styled hair. I wanted to keep the makeup feeling luxurious and beautiful to go with the expensive jewels and contrast but work with the cool minimal grungy hair so I decided on a neutral palette with strong contouring with a nod to the supermodels of the 90’s who we all love. I have been using the new MAC Mineralize Foundations which I tried out at the shows and wanted to see how they worked for a studio shoot and all I can say is me likey. I used my trusted favourite Tom Ford Beauty Shade & Illuminate for the ultimate contour which I use a MAC foundation brush for and then highlight which I use my fingers to do so. I swept a light dusting on the t-zone of the new Les Beiges Healthy Glow Powder by Chanel this product is a new staple in my kit and gives a great finish for every day makeup and also for professional use. For the eyes I used lots of different Nars eyeshadow all in different shades of brown and lastly I tried a new Double Wear smudge free mascara by Estee Lauder for lots of thick gorgeous black lashes. For the lips I usedNude Lotus by Edward Bess.

Animal-rights campaigners are celebrating the introduction of a sweeping ban on the sale of cosmetics that have been tested on animals comes into force throughout the European Union. Animal experiments carried out to test cosmetics or their ingredients have been outlawed in the EU since 2009. But companies have been free to sell products with a history of animal testing conducted outside Europe. Lets hope the rest of the World follows this ban and we test beauty products on people from now on.

Coqui Coqui is probably my favourite hotel & spa that I was fortunate enough to visit earlier this year & I went to the beach front of Tulum & also a sleepy Colonial town called Valladolid. Anyone off to the Yucatan in Mexico needs to stop off here to experience luxury & attention to detail at it’s best not to mention an exceptional personal service. There are 4 locations and the pics above are from their single room residence in Valladolid. They have a beautiful Perfumeria which I spent time in buying perfume (tobacco flower) a candle (sandalwood & tropical woods) as well as products such as soap, bath oil, shampoo, hand cream, & linen spray. There is a spa with amazing treatments; massage, facials & on request private yoga & pilates class. Afterwards one can sit in the beautiful garden surrounded by fragrant lime trees listening to the birds, sipping tea and nibbling on hand made chocolates flavoured with essential oils. The power of scent & memory is so visceral with just one spritz of the perfume it takes me right back to my happy place.

I wanted to tell you about the new Denim Spa range from Wrangler because it is finally out. Those clever marketing & design people have come up with 3 slim and skinny fit jeans that are impregnated (they don’t use that word but I like to as it sounds more sci-fi) on the inside with aloe vera, olive extract and smooth fit (apparently tackles cellulite) Normally I would think this would be a total bull selling gimmick but they gave me a pair at the press launch (navy Corynn style with olive extract to moisturise) and I love them. I really do. They are flattering & my legs felt silky soft after wearing & you can also buy a reload spray for after washes. Images are by Gemma Booth & model is the rather divine & super all round gal Ms Lizzy Jagger whose makeup I always keep fresh & beautiful. We shot the ad & video in a nuts 90’s time warp of a flat in London with things like a 1998 guide to the Internet and loads of Ally Mcbeal vhs’s, books like The Beach & a Trainspotting poster. In conclusion I like this idea and it works. We already have clothes for tropical travel impregnated (Score! Managed to write it twice in one blog! Whoop Whoop!) with mosquito repellant. Is this the new way forward a veritable mash up of clothing & high performance skin care? Perfect for the busy and the lazy of which I am both. Try the jeans, I promise you won’t be disappointed.

New Work: Vogue Russia. Photographed by Hans Feurer, Styled by Ekaterina Mukhina, Hair by Erika Svedgevik and model is the gorgeous Catherine McNeil. We shot this in the streets of hot and humid Miami. Supermodel Cat literally stopped traffic. The styling of this story was bright & bold so I decided to keep the makeup very naturally beautiful (to go with the slicked back hair) clean, minimal and with definition in the brow and a soft matte smoky brown shadow on the eyes with tons of black eye pencil in the water line and lots of mascara for extra definition to complete the look I added a red graphic shape under the eye for strength and a pop of colour, Hans loves a bit of tribal so everyone was happy. Hope you like it as much as I do.

New Work: Flair Magazine March 2013. Photographed by Katja Rahlwes, Fashion Editor Sissy Vian, Hair by Luke Hersheson and the model is the gorgeous Karmen Pedaru. This stunner was shot in a glam hotel in Marbella where The Obamas had vacationed. Chic don’t you think? I kept the makeup inspiration as very rich, very beautiful and had a bit of 90’s Versace Supermodel in mind when I designed it using all products by MAC Cosmetics. I kept the skin fresh with a light base using my favourite face & body with a little strobe cream to highlight and give a dewyness to highlight areas and a matte t-zone using blot powder, the colour palette was only neutral and earth tones. I did everything makeup wise from groomed defined brows, contoured cheek bones using the sculpt cream, eyes with wedge and mylar shadow, blacktrack cream liner and tons of mascara using my fav the haute & naughty in black and some cleverly placed individual lashes. It was a subtle exercise of contour and construction beauty wise and I have to say it had been a while since I did a brown lip, it just felt right and I loved using old school spice pencil and taupe lipstick. Hope you like it and may I say that for a neutral makeup look there is absolutely nothing natural about it!

Was a joy to be part of the launch of a new territory Vogue. For the beauty I wanted to evoke a bit of old fashioned Hollywood silver screen glamour but kept it modern and cool too. Was a dream shoot and am proud to have worked on this. Hope you like it.
